unnamed poem

Had the sky wept, I would’ve followed.

But it didn’t, so I ended up swallowing the salty tears.

Before the stormy clouds gathered, I let my heart run rampant.

Now it lay in despair and confusion as lightning lighted up the sky.

Every flash strikes to the heart, like a jumpy nerve that disturbs my peace.

Nearby it struck a fallen wood, crackling it to cinders.

In the wildfire, I saw my life before me as one rioting flame.

The memories melted away with the burning, like a pagan ritual sacrifice.
